Clinic Review
August 6, 2006 Spay, Neuter and Vaccination Clinic
On Sunday, August 6, 2006 Commonwealth Cats held a Spay, Neuter and Vaccination Clinic in Boston. This was our 10th clinic since we started the organization at the end of 2004. We have now cared for 368 cats.
Our clinic was held at the spay/neuter hospital at the MSPCA Angell's new Copeland Animal Care and Adoption Center. It was a treat to be able to use this Center and we are grateful to each of the people on the MSPCA's Shelter Team who made it possible for us to use their facility.
We had 25 volunteers who participated in the clinic to care for the cats, including:
- 7 veterinarians
- 10 veterinary technicians/assistants
- 8 helpers/assistants
Our statistics for the day were:
- 67 feral cats scheduled
- 60 feral cats admitted
- 5 cats were too small for the anesthesia (returned to caretakers)
- 1 found to be previously spayed (we vaccinated her)
- 27 males were neutered
- 27 females were spayed
In addition to the excellent team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians and all of our dedicated clinic volunteers, a number of other people pitched in to make the day a success. Laura Burns from Hubcats made a donation to pay for lunch for the volunteers, and delivered fine Hors D'oeuvres prepared and donated by Linda Montasano from "All About Cats!" We want to extend a big "Thank You" to Kim Heise from the MSPCA's MetroSouth Adoption and Animal Care Center who volunteered to transport cats from the South Shore to the clinic in Boston and back.
The cats that were cared for at the clinic were brought by humane societies, cat rescue groups and by individuals that care for feral cat colonies. These folks are on the front lines of caring for some of the neediest animals in Massachusetts.
Together we were able to prevent the birth of many cats and help those at the clinic to a healthier life.
Commonwealth Cats is planning 3 more clinics this year. The next Commonwealth Cats clinic will be on September 17, 2006 and will also
be in Boston. There are many ways to get involved in our program. If you would like to help please contact us at commonwealthcats@hotmail.com
