Clinic Review
November 21, 2004 Spay, Neuter and Vaccination Clinic
On November 21, 2004 Commonwealth Cats, Inc. held our opening Spay, Neuter and Vaccination Clinic. We had a highly skilled team of veterinarians and veterinary technicians as well as dedicated and hard-working assistants. Together we were able to help 19 feral cats, including 10 females and 9 males. Each cat was scanned for a microchip (none were found), spayed or neutered, vaccinated for Rabies and Feline Distempter and treated for fleas, ticks and ear-mites. The trapping and transportation of the cats was coordinated by the Neponset Valley Humane Society, Charles River Feline Rescue and the South Shore Humane Society. We are grateful to the Dakin Shelter and the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society who donated supplies and loaned us surgery equipment to support our efforts. The Winchester Animal Clinic was very generous in loaning us their facility to conduct the clinic. The help we provided to these cats was truly a community effort.
Commonwealth Cats is a new 501(c)3 non-profit charity whose mission is to provide sterilization and vaccination services for the health and population control of feral cats in Massachusetts. Behind the scenes we have had a core team of people who have volunteered time and services to set up the organization. We hope Commonwealth Cats will grow over time and bring care to an increasing number of feral cats who would not otherwise receive veterinary care.
