Spay, Neuter and Vaccination Clinic

Commonwealth Cats ran our second Spay, Neuter and Vaccination Clinic on January 16, 2005. A wonderful group of volunteers, including veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other folks dedicated to helping feral cats participated in our program. The clinic was held at a veterinary facility in Salem, Massachusetts. Following is some information about the day and what we accomplished.

  • 41 cats were admitted.
  • 40 cats were spayed or neutered.
  • 18 of the cats were female.
  • 23 were male.
  • 1 cat had a respiratory condition and did not have surgery.

Each cat was scanned for a microchip (none were found), spayed or neutered, vaccinated for Rabies and Feline Distempter and treated for fleas, ticks and ear-mites (when appropriate).

The trapping and transportation of the cats was coordinated by a number of humane and cat rescue groups as well as individuals that care for feral cats.

Commonwealth Cats is a new organization whose mission is to deliver humane sterilization and vaccination services for the health and population control of feral cats in Massachusetts. Please visit us on the web at www.commonwealthcats.org.
