Clinic Review
June 5, 2005 Spay, Neuter and Vaccination Clinic
Our June 5, 2005 clinic was the first time that Commonwealth Cats used a mobile spay wagon in conjunction with shelter space (until now we have used traditional veterinary facilities) to hold our clinics. It is also the first time we have held a clinic in the South Shore area. The feedback we received from everyone involved seems to indicate that this worked out very well. The volunteers who made this clinic happen were a wonderful group of people to work with. These veterinarians, veterinary technicians and assistants dedicated a beautiful summer Sunday to help the animals in our Massachusetts communities.
Following are some statistics about the June 5, 2005 clinic:
- 34 cats were scheduled for admission.
- 27 cats were admitted.
- 15 of the cats admitted were male (2 of these were found to be previously neutered and received the other services we provide).
- 12 of the cats were female.
Commonwealth Cats would like to thank the South Shore Humane Society for buying lunch for our volunteers, and the Brockton Cat Coalition for coordinating the caretakers and trappers. We would like to thank the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society for lending us surgical supplies and equipment.
We are grateful to the MSPCA and, in particular, the staff at their Metro South Animal Care and Adoption Shelter for allowing us to use their facilities, for transporting the Spay Wagon and for all their support in the planning of the clinic.
Together we were able to make life better for 27 feral cats who would not otherwise receive veterinary care and to prevent the births of many kittens in the future.
