Clinic Review
April 30, 2006 Spay, Neuter and Vaccination Clinic
Commonwealth Cats had a Spay, Neuter and Vaccination Clinic on April 30, 2006 in Danvers, MA. This was our first clinic this year; we had planned a clinic on February 12, 2006, however, Mother Nature had other plans and sent us the ?Blizzard of ?06?? that day and we had to cancel. We have 5 more clinics planned this year.
Our April 30, 2006 Clinic produced the following statistics:
- 76 cats scheduled
- 46 cats presented by caretakers and trappers (1 of these cats appeared to be "friendly" and was taken home for foster care by the trapper who brought her )
- 45 cats admitted
- 20 females
- 25 males
- 3 cats found to be previously spayed (1 had an ear tattoo that was not visible until examination)
- 2 cats found to be previously neutered
- 1 cat was a very late pregnancy and was not spayed for medical reasons (she was sent home for foster)
- 5 additional cats were pregnant (and spayed)
- 5 females were lactating (the caretakers and trappers were notified to look for kittens)
- 1 cryptorchid male
A number of volunteers were new to our program and Commonwealth Cats is happy to have them join us! Additionally, the Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute graciously loaned us space in their veterinary facility and supported a supervised learning opportunity to students in their Veterinary Technician program who came to observe and help out during the clinic. The students who participated joined right in to help the cats and did a great job! As always, we are fortunate to have many repeat volunteers and who keep the clinics going and help so many cats who would not otherwise get veterinary care.
The Board of Directors for Commonwealth Cats cares deeply about the animals treated during our clinics and we strive to improve our program in any way we can. We are always happy to hear feedback about the clinics and any suggestions our volunteers have on how we can make this program better.
Yesterday was a beautiful spring day and our volunteers likely had a million other ways they might have spent their Sunday ? We are grateful that they chose to spend it helping the animals who came to the clinic.
